The Radix team has created the first layer of the distributed ledger technology (DLT) network with its own native token, XRD.
With its innovative consensus mechanism - Proof-of-Stake Velocity (PoSV) - the network is able to offer high transaction throughput and low transaction fees, making it an ideal platform for token-based applications. Radix's mission is to create an open financial ecosystem that enables developers and businesses to build blockchain applications without having to worry about the underlying infrastructure or consensus mechanism.
Staking
XRD plays a vital role in Radix's Delegated Proof of Stake (DPoS) system, safeguarding the Radix Public Network against Sybil attacks. Token holders of XRD actively participate in consensus by delegating their tokens to the validators, a process known as "staking". These dedicated "stakers" are motivated by the opportunity to earn network emission rewards.
Transaction fees
In addition to its role in staking, XRD can be utilized to cover transaction fees on the Radix Public Network. The primary purpose of these fees is to prevent spam transactions across the network. Notably, all transaction fees collected are burnt, meaning the tokens used for the fees are permanently removed from circulation by the Radix Protocol.
