MetaMask's Integration with Solflare Widens Access to Solana

Crypto users can now access the Solana network via MetaMask after Solflare integrated Solana Snap on the Web3 tool. Stakeholders believe this will boost adoption for Solana.

Solana Wallet Solflare has launched a new feature that allows MetaMask users to access the Solana network directly from MetaMask. With this new feature, the days of crypto users having to create a new wallet just for Solana might be over.

According to the announcement, the feature is possible through a partnership between Solflare and deBridge Finance. MetaMask has also acknowledged the integration, noting that this is a great time to onboard Solana through its wallet.

The integration adds a Solflare widget to MetaMask through which users can manage their assets, swap tokens, stake SOL, and check their activity. MetaMask has been enabling customization of our wallet with MetaMask Snap, which allows developers to add new features to the popular Web3 tool.

Solflare added that there will be 0% fees this week for those bridging to Solana. This will likely encourage more people to take advantage of the new feature.

How to Connect Solana to MetaMask

Connecting to Solana via Solana Snap on MetaMask is relatively easy. Users only have to visit the Solflare website and install the Solana Snap. Once installed, users will see the Solana widget whenever they connect to Solana apps via MetaMasks and do everything they can on Solflare.

According to Solflare, bridging assets from EVM to Solana will take less than a minute, and MetaMask wallets automatically connect to Solana apps. "Whenever you connect your MetaMask to a Solana app, you'll also get a trusted Solflare companion," it said.

deBridge DLN is at the center of the whole infrastructure as it powers the integrated bridge that enables users to move assets across the networks. With many bridges susceptible to exploits, deBridge distinguishes itself as free of the vulnerability of classical bridges. Its design enables zero-TVL to be kept on the bridge during transfers.

What The Integration Means for Solana

The incompatibility of MetaMask and Solana has always been a significant issue, given that MetaMask is the most used crypto wallet. This is due to the difference in the programming language between the Solana and the EVM-compatible networks that MetaMask supports.

While EVM blockchains are written in Solidity, Solana's native programming language is Rust. This meant that crypto investors who use Solana had to create a new wallet to store assets based on the network.

With this integration, that might no longer be necessary, and Solflare believes it could further lower entry barriers into the Solana ecosystem. Using MetaMask on Solana could bring more EVM network users to Solana.

MetaMask is the most used wallet, with over 30 million active monthly users. With the integration, there is no need to install a new wallet, and it further bridges the gap between the multiple blockchains with different underlying infrastructures.

For Solana, the integration could further boost activity on the network as it slowly recovers after suffering setbacks with the FTX collapse. Despite its token falling significantly and some major projects like DeGods and y00ts NFTs leaving the network, development has continued.

This has helped its rebound as NFT and DeFi activity on the network has improved in recent months. In the past seven days, SOL has also increased 25% to its highest price since November 2022. It's up 70% in 30 days.
